Simple question. My first guess is either an F40 or a 288 GTO but surely there are pricier ones out there.

Current market value or original sticker?

I’d guess something like a de Dion-Bouton V8 from around 1910. This one’s a 1912 car:
The Rolls Royce V8s would be worth even more if any of the three survived, I’m sure.
Outside of cars, there are a few early aero engines which are priceless (as in, the owners are national museums that will never sell).

This Shelby Daytona sold for $7.25 million.

Good question. I’m going with: Highest price ever sold
ie. A Hemi Cuda Convertible sold for 3 Million in the muscle car craze of 2007 so that counts.

Ohhhh good call!

Lotus has only 1 more brand new V8 replacement engine for Esprit in-stock in England. If I were to order it for a customer *does the math* $48,556 plus labor :]
Or, probably THIS , but no price is listed
![]() 02/17/2016 at 10:35 |

It’s $48 THOUSAND???? That astounds me.

Got it, there have been a ton of Straight 8's that have sold into the 8 figures, but V8, probably the Shelby Daytona suggested already.

Expensive V8 engine, or expensive V8 car?
![]() 02/17/2016 at 11:16 |

Hemi Cuda Convertibles always sell high, there were only 14 in 1971!

Car with V8 inside of it.
![]() 02/17/2016 at 11:21 |

I believe the Shelby Daytona wins
But I wanted to point out that 70/71 Hemi Cuda Convertibles have sold more than just 1 above the 2 million mark

In terms of just a motor, I’ve seen a original Yenko cast Aluminum 427 for sale. It was a bare block an asking $20k for just the block. You still had to piece the rest of the motor together.

GTOs are worth approximately $3.5m, F40s are $1.5m.
The answer is a GT40 with some pedigree, the one below sold for $11m. Guessing one of the 3 LeMans winners would sell for more.

I see someone already posted the Shelby Daytona, but these have to be close, too.

It’s only about $88,000.

That’s an awesome little piece of trivia... I know you don’t deal in BMWs, but is there any way you can find out the factory replacement cost of an S65 engine for an E9x M3 (just the parts, no labor)?

I can make a call to my friend that used to work here who is now at BMW parts and ask :] I don’t think he needs the last 8 digits of the VIN but what year is it? Just in case they made changes
Any questions about Volvo. Merc, Aston, and Lotus let me know. Did you see THIS post from a while back? I think you’d might like it :]

I’d bet anything there’s a train or industrial tractor/truck that came with a V8 and sold for no less than $10 million.

How much would s new M275 AMG v12 go for ? I think amg tech said it was very expensive.

Mine’s a 2008, and I know of at least one small change over the run. 2013 was the last year for the engine, so that’d be good. He’s at http://www.getbmwparts.com/ ? Ask him to hook an Opponaut up with a promo code! =)

Great post - looks like I gave you a star back when you first put it up. Are you going to be at Lone Star LeMans this year? I’m going to get down there for it this year - no excuses!

Lol I’m sure. We have a couple of those on our used engine wall but they are all inop. I’ll walk down there and get you an exact price lol :] Do you have the last 8 of your VIN?
![]() 02/18/2016 at 10:20 |

They have remans for $15,000 (same as a brand new Volvo V8 lol ) and new ones are $26k not including exhaust gaskets, coils, plenum, headers, and a bunch of other stuff that gets transfered

Always! I never miss it. I’m there from gates open to the FIA WEC podium at around 11:50pm :] Planning on going to the FIA WEC at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as well back home

No, why would you need it ?
![]() 02/18/2016 at 10:24 |

for any type of parts seach, Merc is anal about the VIN. If not, I could just give you an approx
![]() 02/18/2016 at 10:29 |

Sure ! If I give you my VIN could you see how many of “my car” were made ?
![]() 02/18/2016 at 10:33 |

LOL indeed. The last 8 digits is all I need for this program to play nice with me

Alright . I'll message to when I get home from work. Too much salt on the roads to drive the merc.

Thanks for the info! That’s about what I’d heard. Hopefully I’ve got one of the good ones that will take me past 200k. =)

last year
. I did meet a lot of us throughout the track, but as far as a meet at a certain time and location, nobody showed up.

Yeah, everybody’s got their own plans, I guess. Hope to meet you down there, one way or another.

lol and you both homie. Mine is starting to get a bit tight as well.
![]() 02/18/2016 at 13:51 |

Mine was always tight - I’m right on the line between large and XL. I swim in some XLs, but some larges are way too tight to wear in public.

I replaced the engine in a C63 507 edition about a year ago and that was $95,000.

Hey, my last 8 are 4A410262. Whenever you could get around to it would be great.
